Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts re-enforces

Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts and Habitat for Humanity Africa & the Middle East are delighted to announce the continued partnership to help providing affordable housing for families and communities in Tanzania. They are also celebrating the collection of USD 14,000 from the Mövenpick Royal Palm Hotel in Dar es Salaam towards the programme.

This meaningful partnership between both organizations was established in Tanzania in February 2008. Since then, it has helped 20 families in Tanzania to improve their standard of living and enhance facilities in their communities.

Founded in 1976, Habitat for Humanity International Today, has built over 350,000 houses around the world and has provided more than 1.75 million people in 3,000 communities with safe, decent and affordable shelter.

Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts and Habitat for Humanity International are pleased to announce the hand over of USD 14,000 at the Mövenpick Royal Palm Hotel Dar es Salaam on March 16, 2010.

In order to mark this milestone, the Mövenpick Royal Palm Hotel in Dar es Salaam hosted a press conference followed by a cocktail reception attended by the former first lady of Tanzania, Mama Anna Mkapa, Habitat for Humanity’s director in Tanzania, Scott Metzel, Mövenpick Royal Palm Hotel General Manager Hans-Peter Duerr, and Gehan Moustafa, Director of Branding and Marketing Communications of Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts Africa.

Since February 2008, Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts has raised USD 20,000 to help towards projects in Tanzania, which is in-line with the company’s commitment to social responsibility and sustainability in the communities where it operates.

Hans-Peter Duerr, General Manager of Mövenpick Royal Palm Hotel in Dar es Salaam says: “Our partnership with Habitat for Humanity has contributed to improving the lives of families and communities here in Tanzania and elsewhere in Africa. “At Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts we are extremely pleased to be renewing our collaboration in Tanzania with Habitat for Humanity and look forward to joining them in developing further initiatives which will have a beneficial impact on the region.”

After signing their initial agreement, the first house in the scheme was completed in August 2008 in the Chamazi-Mbagala area of Dar es Salaam. This marked the first material benefit of the partnership between the Swiss-based hotel chain and the global non-profit housing organisation.

This initiative has the potential to improve the lives of low income families and communities across Africa, with the prospect of bringing hope and meaning where needed.
